If you’ve ever been entranced by the soulful, exotic sounds of the Spanish guitar or oud, now is your chance to learn how to make this beautiful instrument yourself! Our instrument making course is designed to teach you everything you need to know about crafting your own unique instrument, from selecting the finest materials to perfecting your construction techniques.
Led by a skilled and experienced luthier, our course covers all aspects of instrument construction, including shaping the body, installing the frets, and fitting the strings. With hands-on guidance and plenty of practice time, you’ll soon be able to create an instrument that looks and sounds as incredible as it feels to play.

Prior woodworking/instrument making experience and knowledge is preferred but not necessary!
The in-person workshop located in the beautiful Beacon, NY, will run for 2 weeks. The student shall arrive the Sunday night before Monday. The second Saturday is the last day of the workshop.

For some it is difficult to dedicate 2 weeks to craft an instrument. We offer a course on your time. It must be completed in 6 months time, and you book the time with us when you’re available at your convenience.

Once the down payment is received, you will receive an email for scheduling. The project materials will then be ordered. Tuition is nonrefundable once received, but can be rescheduled if a cancellation occurs due to scheduling issues. The completed instrument remains with the instructor but offered at a discounted rate should the student want to keep it.

Consultation and Mentorship
Are you stuck? Don’t know how to begin? Keep getting bad results with a particular task in building? Do you want to know a better way to go about a particular task?
John Vergara offers one on one consultation and mentorship for your specific instrument making needs. This includes for guitar, oud, and Puerto Rican cuatro. Sessions are $200 for an hour and are held on Zoom. Contact us if interested in a one on one.
